Highly popular, tongue-in-cheek 1970s version of the classic swashbuckler set in 17th-century France, with little to beat it for knockabout entertainment and a great cast. Michael York's D'Artagnan is handsome, athletic and feisty, Richard Chamberlain is elegant as Aramis and Oliver Reed's is a lusty Athos, while both Raquel Welch (as Constance) and Simon Ward (as Buckingham) take it straight and succeed best. Though the editing might have been tighter, director Richard Lester provides expert comedy, fine drama and great visual style .
