Michael Lerner

The former literature professor is probably best known for his Oscar-nominated portrayal of Jack Lipnick in the Coen Brothers' Barton Fink.
Specialising in savvy bullies, he quit work as a college professor at San Francisco State College and turned to acting in the late 1960s.
He made his big screen debut in Alex in Wonderland and subsequent appearances include The Candidate, Goldengirl and The Postman Always Rings Twice.
Lerner also regularly appeared on TV shows including The Rockford Files, Starsky and Hutch and Hart to Hart.
He attracted attention with his big screen portrayal of Arnold Rothstein in 1988's Eight Men Out and went on to play support roles in Godzilla (as Mayor Ebert) and Fulton in Elf.
Recent work includes the spoof documentary The Calcium Kid with Orlando Bloom, Ronni Ancona and Billie Piper.
