Skulduggery and intrigue in darkest Germany, with undercover agent Roy Scheider using his bar as a front (shades of Casablanca) while he goes on the trail of a fortune in gold bars. The film was the pilot for a short-lived series which emerged with a new locale and a new title, Assignment: Vienna, to say nothing of a new leading man, Robert Conrad. Scheider, hoping for bigger things after his Oscar nomination for The French Connection, balked at the assignment and refused the role and was sued by the producers.
