There's a glorious innocence about the film adventures of the Starship Enterprise, though this one is more routine than its theme promises.
Spock 'died' in the previous adventure, but you can bet your last Klingon coin that Captain Kirk (still William Shatner) and his trusty crew will not allow him to rest in peace for long.
Add a Klingon warlord out to wrest the secret of 'Genesis' (the regeneration of a dead planet) from its inventor (Kirk's son) and you have a simple mixture which goes down at a rather leisurely pace for the next hour and 40 minutes.
Shatner continues to grow younger while all about him look ready to draw their old-age pensions: an offshoot from the 'Genesis' project perhaps.
A giggle a minute for the rest of us while Trekkies remain spellbound.
A good supporting cast includes Christopher Lloyd, James B Sikking and John Larroquette.
