Sharon Stone
Born: March 10th, 1958
Where: Meadville, Pennsylvania, USA
The Oscar-nominated actress seems destined to be remembered for "that scene" in the thriller Basic Instinct when interrogators get more than they bargained for when she uncrosses her legs.
However, she has also turned in winning performances in movies such as Casino (for which she was Oscar nominated and won a Golden Globe) and The Muse and The Mighty.
Born the second of four children, the gifted Stone (who has an IQ 0f 154) attended Saegertown High School and left Edinboro University with a degree in The Fine Arts and Creative Writing.
At seventeen she won the Pennsylvanian beauty contest, which led on to her being offered many modelling jobs both in T.V. commercials and print advertisements.
Finally in 1980 Stone made her debut in Woody Allen's Stardust Memories as "pretty girl in a train" although this was not a speaking part.
She persisted with acting, mainly in B-movies, and went on to receive her big break alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in Total Recall.
She also posed nude for Playboy, a daring move for a 32-year-old actress, which paved the way for the role of sociopath novelist, Catherine Tramell, in Basic Instinct with Michael Douglas.
Her performance captivated everyone, from MTV viewers, who honoured her with Most Desirable Female and Best Female Performance Awards, to a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress.
Regardless of this, after Stone became famous she feared becoming type cast so played a victim in Sliver of 1993 and Richard Gere's bitter wife in Intersection.
At this time she dated Dwight Yoakam, who she described as "like kissing a dirt sandwich".
She went on to take more aggressive roles such as The Specialist with Stallone and The Quick and the Dead opposite Gene Hackman.
Next came her most convincing performance yet - the Oscar-nominated part of Robert De Niro's drug crazy wife in Casino in 1995.
She received her third Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress three years later for The Mighty, a film that her company, Chaos, also co-executive produced.
The next year Stone took on her first ever comedic role in The Muse, which garnered her another Golden Globe nomination.
In 1999 she starred in the comedy drama Simpatico with Jeff Bridges which she followed with another comedy - Picking Up The Pieces - with Woody Allen.
In 2001 she was struck down by a brain aneurysm but made a full recovery.
Sharon's work includes Mike Figgis' thriller Cold Creek Manor, with Dennis Quaid and Stephen Dorff and most recently, starring alongside Halle Berry in Catwoman.
