This West German slice of science-fantasy is set in America and comes out as a cross between `Home Alone' and `Child's Play'. Director and co-writer Roland Emmerich has some great ideas, including a boy being able to talk to his dead father on a toy telephone, but his narrative fails to make them as convincing as they might be.
