This rather bland drama about a middle-aged secretary's dilemma - whether to choose marriage with her retiring boss or a career with his younger replacement - is held together by a strong, award-winning performance from Jean Stapleton in the central role. Stapleton is better-known in America as Carroll O'Connor's long-suffering wife in All in the Family, the US version of Till Death Us Do Part. The film also marks an early substantial role for Peter Coyote, who went on to appear in such hits as E. T. , Jagged Edge and Outrageous Fortune.
