In the early Seventies a daring criminal got away with a $200,000 haul by parachuting out of a airliner, never to be seen again. This comedy chase film takes D B Cooper's escape as its starting point for the fictional adventures that follow. Meade (Treat Williams) is D B Cooper and he wants to take his wife on a dream spree with the money. But airline investigator Gruen (Robert Duvall) gets to her first and Meade only manages to stay one jump ahead. Developing into a series of mindless chases, the film isn't quite fast-moving enough to gloss over the cracks in its plot. And, if fun for a while, it wears out its welcome pretty quickly. Although Roger Spottiswoode is given director credit, the film started its production life with John Frankenheimer at the helm. He was replaced by Buzz Kulik before Spottiswoode took the reins. One critic reckoned he should have taken a leaf out of D B Cooper's book and used a pseudonym!
