Not one of Sidney Lumet's most successful films, this offbeat comedy has its moments, even if it suffers from an excess of cuteness. But the central idea is a delightful one, the cast (which includes Carrie Fisher, Ron Silver, Hermione Gingold and Harvey Fierstein) is tremendous, and Anne Bancroft is at her endearing best as the ageing eccentric forever in search of the elusive and reclusive Greta Garbo.
