Co-scripted by Robert Keats and Louis La Rosso II, The Closer is based on La Rosso's 1976 Broadway play, Wheelbarrow Closers. The scenario will be familiar to film-buffs from the 1954 movie, Woman's World, only here it is the salesmen rather than their wives who compete for the boss's approval. Danny Aiello gives a fine performance as the shrewd operator playing with the crude ambition of the two salesmen. Diane Barker is excellent , while looking beautiful, as Aiello's long-suffering wife; and Justine Bateman is sexy and acid-tongued as the couple's rebellious daughter. Although somewhat over-theatrical, the movie is smoothly directed by Logothetis.
