TV movie on a favourite screen theme. Like Mayerling, the Titanic story seems to offer everything - great wealth, tragic death, the end of an era, plus the added thrill of its having actually happened. Despite its documentary-style approach though, this version remains cheerless and unconvincing, with a dogged and glum performance from its star, David Janssen, in one of his last roles.

I have the original version of this film on VHS which runs for over 2 hrs and it is infinitely better than the cut down version. Having worked on big liners I find this film extremely accurate in it's portrayal of shipboard life on a large ocean liner of this period.
