The actress is best known for the part of Calpurnia alongside Gregory Peck in the 1962 anti-racist classic To Kill A Mockingbird.

In a limited acting career, she had appeared as herself in the 1948 documentary The Quiet One and went on to star in 1969's The Learning Tree.

In 1982, she starred in the mystery-thriller The Clairvoyant and also appeared in the TV series Tales of the Unknown South.
