This is the true story of Mel Mermelstein, a Nazi concentration camp survivor who is forced to meet bigotry and racism head-on. Mermelstein lectures in California high schools about the Nazi atrocities, but a hate group called the Institute for Historical Review claims the Holocaust never happened and challenges Mermelstein to prove it did in court. Despite cautious advice, Mermelstein rises to the challenge. A fascinating story unfolds here and the narrative is driven by two fine performances - from Leonard Nimoy as Mermelstein and Dabney Coleman as the Catholic lawyer who becomes his unlikely courtroom ally. The drama in the courtroom scenes is authentic - the actual transcripts of the case were used - and the pressure Mermelstein was under seems very real. Absorbing and fascinating.
