This lush romantic drama marked a return to film directing after a six-year absence of Australian Phillip Noyce, who made his mark with the likes of Newsfront and Dead Calm, and has recently scored major Hollywood success with Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger. It bears more than a passing resemblance to David Lean's Summer Madness, with the ever-reliable Wendy Hughes in the Katharine Hepburn role of a frustrated woman falling in love with a handsome stranger while on holiday. John Lone, as the enigmatic Balinese prince, just before he started work on The Last Emperor, certainly looks the part of the dashing young blade, but he fails to generate much heat and passion in the love scenes. Still, the film could do wonders for tourism to Thailand if nothing else!
