This gung-ho American action film in the tradition of Sands of Iwo Jima and The Wild Geese is just fine until any of its characters has to open his mouth. Outdated in attitudes by a good 40 years, it presents us with a US land/water squad in the SAS tradition that has to destroy stolen US missiles somewhere in Lebanon. No problem, of course. 'You're dealing with extremists' the squad is told. 'You're dealing with the Navy Seals', is the reply. Ha! ! With men like this, we could be off on World War Three at any moment, especially hothead Charlie Sheen, who shoots a man for speaking disrespectfully of his mother. Michael Biehn is the caring skipper ('Are you all right? ' he asks an obviously dying man) and Joanne Whalley-Kilmer gives a career-worst performance as a half-Lebanese reporter in love with him. Mind you, some of these cast members over-act even when they have no dialogue. The action is competently staged and constant, making this an enjoyably awful movie.
