With a weak script to start with, director Wayne Wang obviously decided to take the `style over content' route with this thriller. Unfortunately, that didn't work either. Tom Hulce (who played Mozart in Amadeus) is a cartoonist who has an affair but then finds the lady murdered and that he is the prime suspect. Hulce is wild-eyed and slightly psychotic as usual, which is irritating, while Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio is given little to do but look lovely. Harry Dean Stanton is wasted as a shady detective and Adam Ant once again proves that he couldn't act startled if you set his trousers alight. A deeply unsatisfying film on every level.
