Jerry Lee Lewis was the wild man of Fifties rock, so you would expect a film about his life to be pretty over-the-top too. And so it is, but unfortunately Dennis Quaid's manic portrayal does 'The Killer' little justice and is the driving force behind a very superficial biopic. The film focuses on a brief part of the legendary rocker's career and how his marriage to his 13-year-old cousin Myra Gale (Winona Ryder) dented it irreparably. Quaid plays the part as if he's performing on stage all the time. Surely, whatever his faults, Lewis is a man of greater depth than this. On the plus side, the scenes of Jerry Lee in concert are well done and exciting but they only serve to show how wide of the mark the rest of the film is.
