Pierce Brosnan coasts smoothly through his clichéd role here as an FBI bomb expert trying to stop a psycho who's killing senators with a deadly explosive liquid. A solid cast of extravagant performers - Ron Silver (as devious as ever), Ben Cross, Lisa Eilbacher, Al Waxman - provides a hefty, much-needed prop for this absurdly plotted and over-heated action movie. The muddle that the story gets itself into is slightly redeemed by the basic action thrills. It's a plus if you like Brosnan as James Bond, and his blackly comic battle with a hit-man disguised as a clown is a sparkling set-piece that could have come straight out of 007.
