A tough and uncompromising film about Barry Seal, a drug runner who agreed to switch sides and become a drug enforcement agent to spend less of his sentence in prison. The former airline pilot agreed to fly into Colombia and Nicaragua undercover to flush out drug tsars, but was doublecrossed by the White House who saw him only as a pawn in a bigger political game. Dennis Hopper excels as Seal, who's yet another in a long line of his flamboyant, over-the-top characters. In Hopper's capable hands he emerges as a fully rounded character, with glimpses beneath the tough macho exterior of the fear and despair lurking within. It is this central performance which elevates this made-for- cable TV film above the norm.
