Wry-humoured Fred Ward is perfectly cast as the 'last of the truly honest men' in this inventive sci-fi detective story made for cable TV. The scene is post-war Los Angeles: Ward's private eye finds himself charged with recovering a priceless book on the occult in a world where anyone is likely to use magic to get what they want. This is well written by Joseph Dougherty and it's much to his credit that, however wild its premise, the story never quite loses touch with reality.
