Long on scenery and short on drama, this Twilight Zone-style trilogy of stories is a bizarre cross between a Western and a ghostly thriller. Central is Bruce Dern as a cold-hearted and twisted bounty hunter, who acts as a narrator. The producers corraled several other big star names, including Helen Hunt and Mariel Hemingway, but they are short-changed on the material. The film captures perfectly the Wild West with its wide open spaces and ghostly locales, but the stories are extremely thin affairs, with their conclusions well telegraphed before the actual pay-off.
