A fiercely poignant performance by Ellen Burstyn and an effective one by Robert Prosky dominate this based-on-fact TV movie about a teenage boy who completely vanished while driving across America. Burstyn will have you cheering her on every step of the way as she fights bureaucratic barriers and the indifference of police and FBI and hires dog-eared veteran gumshoe Prosky to hunt for her son. A nicely made piece this, right down to the ironic climax: hard-hitting but made with sensitivity by director Roger Young.
