In 1969 eight men were brought to trial in Chicago for inciting a riot at the previous year's Democratic National Convention. The trial lasted five months and became a media event - a clash between the establishment and the Sixties counter-culture. This film is a two-hour compression of the trial, complete with a star-studded cast (including Peter Boyle, Elliott Gould, Martin Sheen, Robert Loggia and Robert Carradine). It's a fascinating piece of work, with scenes intercut with comments from the real defendants. The unfortunate thing is that it may not mean all that much to anyone watching in this country: the case wasn't big news here and the film tends to rely on the viewer having some basic background knowledge about what happened.
