Dick Van Dyke has had little success on American TV in recent years, but his career was given new life by a trio of TV movies - of which this was the second - that led to his own weekly drama series. In them he plays a doctor and amateur sleuth (shades of Jack Klugman's Quincy) who's as fast on his feet and with his wits as he is with a scalpel. The impressive cast in this one, including David Warner, Mariette Hartley, Cynthia Gibb and the permanently tanned George Hamilton, is additionally bolstered by Van Dyke's son, Barry, who has his regular role as the policeman son of the central character.
