The Hollywood of the Eighties has developed an absolute mania for remaking sexy comedies from countries abroad that made it big at the English-speaking box-offices of the world. This is a rehash of the Brazilian smash Dona Flor and Her Two Husbands, but once again the recipe for success doesn't travel too well,in spite of an attractive cast that includes Sally Field, James Caan, Jeff Bridges, Paul Dooley, Claire Trevor and Mildred Natwick. Director Robert Mulligan couldn't go altogether wrong with that collection, and there are indeed some nice moments, although the relaxed sexuality of the original isn't quite recaptured.
