Justifiably high hopes were held for Barbara Ferris at the time of this skilful love story, and it's rather sad that she never made a complete breakthrough to stardom. Here she matches that excellent actor Oskar Werner emotion for emotion in a well photographed, if bleak, look at the affair between a young girl reporter and a famous conductor. Shafts of lunatic humour break up the sentimental moments, and John Cleese has a few deliciously acid lines as a public relations man.
