Man's Best Friend

Horror thriller starring Ally Sheedy as a TV reporter who rescues a genetically engineered dog from a research lab, little realising its true nature.

This demon doggie movie could almost be called Mad Max 4. And Max is mad all right, but then so would you be if you'd been made the subject of genetic experiments that gave you all the 'best' traits of other animals. When Max breaks loose so, consequently, does All Hell. Postmen have their throats ripped out and cats are swallowed whole. Not that Max ever kills without provocation - probably the reason he's so lovable to heroine ally Sheedy, who hides him from the authorities. 'If I don't get him tonight,' grates chief scientist Lance Henriksen, 'he's going to go through a psychotic episode.' Boldly treading in the footsteps of George Zucco and a whole string of Hollywood scientists and doomed medical ventures, Henriksen appears to be enjoying himself even more than Max. 'What about my dog? ' he asks the head-scratching coppers. 'Any leads? ' 'Ruff' stuff this, an enjoyably bad movie in the good old style.
