There are shades of Bull Durham in this adult comedy-drama about a no-hope baseball team in Fifties Florida. Three performances - all from actors who still, today, appear on the verge of the `big time' - elevate it above the norm for made-for-cable TV dramas. William L Petersen as the manager, Dermot Mulroney as a rookie player and Virginia Madsen as the local small town beauty queen are all good reason to tune in, even if sports-related films are not your cup of tea. It's directed with a fine flourish and period feel by Martin Davidson, who made The Lords of Flatbush and Eddie and the Cruisers.
