Kris Kristofferson plays a gunslinger without a trigger finger in this send-up saddle opera that takes pot-shots at all those Shane-style 'gunfighter-comes-to-the-aid-of-homesteaders-bullied-by-bad-guys' sagas. Very few clichés are left unturned and even if not all those shots hit their target, there's still much to chortle at here. The honest, hardworking sodbusters are easily tempted by the villain's buy-out offer, Ma's home cooking tastes like... well, pretty bad, and the wealthy rancher is in love with the blacksmith. See what I mean? Not a great film, but a pretty enjoyable one.
