Kirstie Alley fires on all cylinders with a fine performance as the wisecracking, sarcastic divorced mother of an autistic boy in this well-made TV movie. With her attitude she succeeds in alienating pretty well everyone around her. The turning point comes when her sister (Stockard Channing) gets her a blind date with Sam Waterston. Director Robert Allan Ackerman keeps things bubbling along nicely instead of simply building up to a big climax. Well-made and well scripted (by Bob Randall), and backed up by a trio of solid performances, this is a surprisingly enjoyable drama given the subject matter.
