A familiar story - prominent lawyer takes on case of person accused of murder after initial reluctance then is drawn into a deadly web of deceit and lies - is given a polished spin here. Peter Coyote and Lesley Ann Warren are attractive leads, and the storyline is based on a true-life murder that happened in Little Rock, Arkansas. The director is George Kaczender who had hoped for mainstream success in 1978 In Praise of Older Women (which gave an early starring role to Tom Berenger) but has generally failed to make the leap from mediocrity to A-list material.
