Walter Matthau and Harry Morgan team up once again as venerable legal eagles and old friends in an intriguing tale, set in the Fifties, that sees Morgan's Judge Stoddard Bell accused of murder. It all centres round Bell's estranged daughter Lily (a particularly fine performance by Stephanie Zimbalist), a proud single mother who has brought up her 13-year-old son on her own. Defence attorney Harmon J Cobb (Matthau) soon finds himself embroiled in a very complex case indeed. The story is skilfully unravelled, Matthau and Morgan are splendid and Bernard Behrens is very entertaining as the cynical judge presiding over the case. Courtroom drama fans should not miss this successful third telefilm in the 'Incident' series.
