Smoothie Roger Moore appears with a glorious head of red hair in this over-contrived thriller. Maybe he thought that pursuing villain Malcolm McDowell wouldn't recognise him. Moore plays British author Thomas Grace, now living in the US. For his successful detective series, Grace had based his main baddie on real-life badhat Bernard Drake (McDowell), who, so our author thought, died in prison in the UK. Not so. Drake is alive, on the same side of the pond, and out for revenge. Our hero learns this fact from psychic waitress Jessica (Nancy Allen). What follows contains plenty of action and a mishmash of gimmicks (like black-and-white clips from the author's televised novels) and vanishing acts. Moore struggles nobly, Allen copes well with her fey character and McDowell goes over the top in leaps and bounds. As with so many TV movies, Canada stands in for the US locations.
