Magda Szubanski
Born: 12 April 1961
Where: Liverpool, England
Magda was born in England to a Scottish mother and Polish father, migrating with her family to Australia at age five.
Determined to be a doctor, she studied so much science that she lost that urge. After a vacation in Scotland and a trip to the Edinburgh Festival while in her teens, she came home with a new career interest - show business.
At Melbourne University, she wrote and performed monologues in campus shows and auditioned for a comedy revue that became D-Generation , a highly successful TV series.
She followed by co-producing, co-writing and co-staring in TVs Fast Forward, then decided to do straight drama with the Sydney Theatre Company.
After working on the two Babe films, Magda became an animal lover. She said: "Babe has been good for my career but Ill always be equally grateful that its opened me up to animals. Before, I was never an animal person."
Sticking to animal movies, Magda appeared alongside Aussie Steve Irwin in The Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course.
