An incredibly schmaltzy story of the improbable romance between the newly-widowed father (Ray Liotta) of a five-year-old girl and the black divorcee (Whoopi Goldberg) he hires as a housekeeper. The parade of child-minding candidates he rejects at the beginning of the film is frankly, like the rest of the story, pretty ridiculous. But fortunately Tina Majorino, as the little girl, is, like Whoopi, a real charmer and just about stops us giving up on the whole damned thing. A good supporting cast is embarrassingly wasted.
