Comic Westerns have pretty much bitten the dust since the distant days of Support Your Local Sheriff! and Blazing Saddles, but here's one that hardly even deserves a critic's arrow in the back. How sad that big John Candy should have succumbed to a heart attack on the torrid location of this heavily over-performed turkey about a group of settlers who reckon enough is enough in the Wild West and decide to head back east. There are offensive gay jokes, bodily function jokes, cartoon-style jokes and comic Indians, but absolutely nothing that raises a laugh. Actually the big fella's not bad in his last film, although everyone else is, relentlessly driven over the precipice of unsubtlety by director Peter Markle. Photography and music are good enough for a real movie. TAGLINE: ' They came. They saw. They changed their minds.'
