Although this is a clever-clever and occasionally witty pastiche by Gremlins director Joe Dante of the trash Fifties teen movie, stuffed with in-references, that fact doesn't make it a lot less tedious than the original. Still, buffs may want to hang around for appearances by Dick Miller (fun), Roger Corman (arch), Dee Wallace Stone (playing it straight), Fabian (looking great in his early Fifties), John Astin (way over the top) and others. Few, though, would recognise Samuel Z Arkoff, the producer of the originals, as a grizzled old storekeeper. Non-fans will probably drop off in the first 10 minutes.
