Renee Soutendijk proves women truly are deadlier than the male in Paul (Basic Instinct) Verhoeven's extraordinary stew of hidden sexual agendas. She plays the femme fatale - and we do mean fatale - beautician Christine Halslag, who loves them and leaves them for dead in what now seems like a dress rehearsal for Sharon Stone's Catherine Tramell role in Basic Instinct. Jeroen Krabbé is comparatively subdued as the gay Catholic novelist who spends the night with Soutendijk and sets out to seduce her plumber boyfriend Thom Hoffman in this steamy hotbed of dark-hued humour and weird psycho-drama.
