Australian comic Yahoo Serious created a cult favourite with his first film, the engagingly daft Young Einstein, but he didn't hit the target again with this effort. Here, Serious is the descendant of legendary Oz outlaw Ned Kelly, whose island paradise is under threat from the nasty Sir John (Hugo Weaving) after Ned robs his bank (well, wouldn't you get nasty if someone robbed your bank? ). To cut a long and not very logical story sideways, Ned ends up in the US of A trying to raise the money to save the island. Serious produced, directed, edited, scripted and stars - perhaps if he'd concentrated on only a couple of those tasks, this would be a better film. Engaging and high-spirited, yes, but not terribly funny. Oh, by the way, I bet Alexei Sayle won't like being reminded that he was in this. Sorry...
