Villainy seems to come easy to the former law student who has starred as Captain Hook, Harry Potter's nemesis Lucius Malfoy and evil William Tavington in The Patriot.

After studying law at Bristol University (where he fuelled his dramatic leaning by producing plays) he attended London's Central School of Speech and Drama.

After making his feature debut alongside Jeff Goldblum in The Tall Guy he starred for two series in the British television hit Capital City.

Subsequent big screen roles included a minor part in Shopping, Dragon Heart and his first high profile part in the sci-fi thriller Event Horizon.

Roles followed in the box office giant Armageddon, The End of the Affair with Julianne Moore and the nasty part that raised his profile opposite Mel Gibson in The Patriot.

He was ranger commander Captain Mike Steele in Ridley Scott's Black Hawk Down and in command of Nicolas Cage in John Woo's Windtalkers.

Isaacs appeared opposite Jackie Chan in The Tuxedo and is also set to reprise the recurring role of Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter series - the most recent being Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban.

Recent work includes the roles of both Captain Hook and Mr Darling in PJ Hogan's live action version of JM Barrie's Peter Pan.

He will also feature opposite Ralph Feinnes, Lauren Holly and John Heard in the drama, The Chumscrubber.
