David Twohy
Born: October 18 1956
Where: USA
The writer and director is best known for being the brain behind the Chronicles Of Riddick series, starring Vin Diesel.
The idea developed from the low-budget hit Pitch Black, which starred Diesel as a blind member of a group of space travellers attacked by man-eating Raptors.
Twohy made his writing debut in 1988 with Critters 2: The Main Course and went onto write screenplays for movies including The Fugitive, Waterworld and GI Jane.
He made his directorial debut with the TV movie Grand Tour: Disaster In Time and went on to helm and pen the sci-fi thriller The Arrival with Charlie Sheen.
After Pitch Black in 2000, Twohy wrote and directed the submarine horror Below (he also played a British captain) but the film never saw a UK release.
The Chronicles Of Riddick acts as a prequel to Pitch Black and the director is also working on Chronicles Of Riddick: Dark Fury, a short linking the movies.
