Fairly amusing comedy set within the confines of a rural English boarding school. Focusing on lonely 10-year-old Magnus (Freddie Findlay), a newcomer at the school, the film follows his various torments and humiliations at the hands of his fellow pupils and even the staff members. But Magnus soon makes friends when, disgusted by the healthy food regime inflicted on the school by the Headmaster (Robert Hardy), he sets up a secret gourmet society and cooks up various delicacies using his father's (Edward Fox) recipes. Then, having indulged in an alcohol-laced chocolate cake, the boys get splendidly drunk and all hell breaks loose - culminating in the sort of antics that make the St. Trinian's films what they are. With a pleasing British cast (including Christopher Lee as a ferocious teacher), this film is slightly above the level of drama offered by the tales of Just William.
