Fortunately there are a few funny moments, mostly towards the end, in this harmless baby comedy.
Grimacing like mad, Hugh Grant stars in a typical role as an expectant father for whom his girlfriend's pregnancy, after five years' living together, is all a little too much.
There's nothing subtle about what follows, epitomised by Tom Arnold's bull-in-a-china-shop friend whom Grant meets when Arnold's children spit food out into Hugh's lunchbox (although one scene in which Arnold assaults a man dressed up as a dinosaur in a toy shop is hilarious).
Robin Williams livens things up with his two appearances as a manic Russian doctor, although you could sleep through the more sentimental bits and not miss a thing.
Joan Cusack and Jeff Goldblum are also in it, but they don't rise above the material.
Grant and Julianne Moore (as the girlfriend) are so wimpish here you want to jump into the screen and throttle them - but then perhaps that's the idea.
