The director is John Singleton, of Boyz N the Hood fame, but this has only touches of that film's power.
The characters are a tad overplayed, and you almost wish the sniper who decimates the student bodies at the end would cut down whingeing Kristy Swanson, torn between her efforts for peace and getting the money for her course, as well as having to choose between heterosexual and lesbian lovers.
'Without struggle, there is no progress,' intones Prof Laurence Fishburne, sonorously.
Not much evidence of either here, whether on the racial or the filmic front.
