When hordes of oil workers become too much for a small town's police force to handle, Vietnam veteran Kris Kristofferson and his buddies come to the rescue. But when power goes to their heads, his brother (Jan-Michael Vincent) arranges his own group to put the vets out of business. An action film by the numbers but with some sardonically witty dialogue and a notable appearance by Bernadette Peters as a tart-cum-singer, who claims a previous acquaintance with everyone she meets. A strong cast gives sharp, brooding performances under the direction of George Armitage, whose more recent work includes Miami Blues and Grosse Pointe Blank.
