This is sort of Carrey On Up the Jungle!
It's is a very broad but often funny sequel to the original Ace Ventura film, with Jim Carrey's 'pet detective' called in to investigate the theft of a sacred white bat that may mean massive tribal warfare across Africa if it's not recovered.
Even pottier, then, than the previous one, but Carrey and director Steve Oedekerk know how to make this crude material work.
It begins brilliantly, but the fun becomes more sporadic later on, although only Carrey could make a mass spitting scene funny.
And only Carrey could ride to the rescue at the end on an ostrich and do it with such aplomb.
The star is admittedly even more OTT than necessary, but his fans will still love it.
