Things to Do in Denver When You're Dead

Andy Garcia plays retired gangster Jimmy "The Saint" Tosnia, who's persuaded by his ex-boss (Christopher Walken) into one last job - frightening off his simpleton son's ex-girlfriend's new beau. Surprise, surprise, it all goes belly-up and The Saint looks like he'll be crucified. For fans of hardcore gangster nastiness. Trivia: the film's title is taken from a song by Warren Zevon.

Grim, harrowing, unrelenting and ultra-violent - all of which might be acceptable if it were in any way believable - this is not the film to watch at the end of a relaxing evening.

Andy Garcia plays an ex-gangster called back for one last job by his ex-boss.

This turns out to be Christopher Walken as another of his stupid sub-Bondian villains, blowing a tube to move his wheelchair and getting stroked in the sauna by his ridiculously curvy nurse.

Walken just wants his simpleton son's ex-girl's new beau frightened off.

Quite why seasoned pro Garcia (now running an afterlife service where dying relatives tape advice to their loved ones) should be called in for this, or why he needs four obviously unreliable associates to help him, isn't clear; there are signs here and there that this might have started out as a black comedy, but debutant director Gary Fleder can't get a handle on that, or much else.

Despite a great cast, nobody wins here - and least of all the viewer.

Freak freak, aha. I liked the concept of "boat drinks". I don't understand why the two weirdest people had to be the cops and surely two psychos who're obviously not in the mood for messin about shouldn't be asked silly questions.

This not a bad movie at all, I understand what the reviewer is saying, even I was thinking why on earth does he get the infamous Jimmy the Saint to make a comeback for legal retirement, to do a job that could be handled by a hoodlum, and why does he need such a large crew for such a small job? Putting that aside once they botch the job, and hits are put out on them is when the movie gets good. Worth a watch.
