Slacker dudes Jason Lee and Jeremy London hang out in a suburban shopping mall while scheming to get their ex-girlfriends Shannen Doherty and Claire Forlani back, in director Kevin (Clerks) Smith's fairly amusing, laid-back comedy. Though a bit limp, and not Smith's best, this oddball item still provides some fun. As usual, he gives himself a supporting role as Silent Bob, with Jason Mewes as Jay. Both are very funny, and they were soon to have a movie of their own, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, in 2001. A pre-stardom Ben Affleck, looking quite different back then, has an unrewarding supporting role.

Although most claim this is not his best work, Mallrats will always hold a special place in my heart as it was this movie that introduced me to Kevin Smiths work and I haven't looked back since. An enjoyable movie with plenty of laughs, pop culture and a great performance from Jason Lee as Brodie Bruce.

Ignore the above discription, Mallrats is brilliant. Kevin Smith continues his quirky stoner humor with the crudeness and cleverness that his faithfull fan base has come to love. His fan base also includes most of the supporting cast that appear to have a hell of a lot of fun on this movie. Smiths' stalwart characters Jay and Silent Bob have much bigger roles than in CHASING AMY and do not dissapoint. Stan Lee himself also has a cameo appearance, the first of many it seems. Chocolate pretzel?
