A gentle, romantic (if very adult) coming-of-age comedy with some good stars - among them John Goodman and Christine Lahti - in small roles. The story sees teenager Charlie (Josh Charles), conceived on a highway during rush-hour gridlock, discovering the joy and pain of love with oddball Amy (Anne Heche). But Charlie's other passion is traffic: when Amy leaves for college he takes off to LA, where his idea of Heaven (if he can't have Amy) is a dowdy flat with a splendid view of the freeway. There, he becomes amorously involved with his landlady (Lahti) and eventually gets a chance to meet his idol, radio traffic deejay Alan Davenport (John Goodman, only on screen for a few minutes but stealing the limelight). Muddled and uneven in tone, the film is still charmingly played, especially by Charles and Lahti.
