West's big screen breakthrough came when he was cast as Tom Swayer in the superhero caper The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
He began to pursue an acting career at the age of fifteen, gaining bit parts on various television shows.
The TV show Once and Again raised his profile and he landed a small role in Barry Levinson's Liberty Heights and took the lead in 2000's Whatever It Takes.
Next up was the minor part of JT in Dracula 2000 and the cloying drama A Time for Dancing.
In 2001, he starred opposite Kirsten Dunst in Get Over It and played the lead in Adam Shankman's A Walk To Remember.
Recent work includes Stephen Norrington's The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen with Sean Connery.
